Lullabies from mothers are
laced with sweet
star drops and
lilac petals.
Listening to one is
like laying your sleepy head
into her song.

She zipped through her day until the moon rose. Then, with eyes closed, opened a window and let in a muse to buzz through her dreams 'til morning.

I always wondered about the phrase "spinning a yarn" and decided it came about because a story, like a ball of yarn, has a beginning and an end..... And this is the end.

Throwing my suitcase in a corner, smelling the rustling clean sheets, opening the windows, swallowing the view, taking my camera, my notebook, my cigarettes, walking into a new place never seen before, with a blank head and without thoughts, all alone, taking pictures, writing postcards and letters, smoking, thinking, all senses open, wide open, suffering, almost, from Stendhals' syndrome, yes, checking in in a new room every day.

STAIR{s}

When asked of his vision
the first stair-builder said
I climbed a ladder into the boughs
of a crabapple tree and sat
on a limb with those sour fruits bobbing
round my head like horseflies
and I daydreamed that my ladder was set deep
into the ground and built with great wide boards
instead of broken branches
and the tree and the stars wheeling above
and the orchard grass below
became my home

For one bright moment, before they had actually shown themselves to one another, they basked in the glory of their courage to truly see - no masks, no shows, no powder. Only time can tell if they'll be willing to live in the rawness, the aftermath of the great reveal.

I could tell you about Goethe and Schiller, or Rainer Maria Rilke,
About Verlaine, Apollinaire, Baudelaire...
- Oh, you know you must read 'À une passante'!
I could not tell you about T.S. Elliot however,
That's your language, not mine.

We sat and watched
the sun spill over the canyon’s rim
and thought
the same thoughts
those old tattered flags flying
behind our eyes
the same as our mothers
and the ones we can never know
before there was language to birth
the loneliness into being
